The application is the remote control to your T-series Kitchen garden. With the application you can control all functionalities related to your kitchen garden. It will also remind you when to fill water and nutrients. The Smart Gardener takes care of the gardening for you.

To optimize the growth and to make your life easy. Every plant species has their own needs, some need a lot of water as some others very little, some plants need to rest without light when some thrive when the light is always on. This is why we have developed the Smart Gardener application that contains unique growing programs for the most common plants. The only thing you need to do is to select the plant and the application will create and control the perfect conditions for the selected plant in your kitchen garden.

The application controls the light, the watering and the nutrients by ensuring that the plants you are growing have optimal conditions all the time. The application also reminds you to add more water and nutrients when needed.

You can use the T-series Kitchen Gardens without the application as each garden is pre-installed with the Smart Default program. The only thing you need to do is to plug in your kitchen garden and add water.

It can be downloaded at AppStore and Google Play.

It works on Apple and Android devices.

After signing in, you have a screen that tells you to connect to a garden. This is done by pressing the + sign in the upper right corner. Press the +-sign and wait for the application to establish the connection. Make sure that you have your kitchen garden plugged in and the bluetooth is switched on on your phone.

This feature is design to ensure good and steady growth during the life span of the plant as the plant has different needs in different growing phase. There are three different growing modes. Seeds, cuttings and Pre-grown plants mode. The seeds mode is used when you start from seeds. This will set the right conditions, the lamp will be of for 7 days and after that it will be turned on automatically. When you use the grwoing phase you havet to first the plant you want to grow from the growing programs menu and then you go to Growing phase and select the growing phase.

There are two different ways to do this. 1) You can use the on/off switch. The switch can be turned to off or automatic mode. In the automatic mode the garden uses the program you have selected. 2) You can also control the timing of light by creating your own growing programs.

Genie FAQ

Genie is a hydroponics device mainly designed for indoor use, but can be used also outside i.e. on the terrace. The Active Growing Technology provides nutritious, oxygenous water to the roots of the plants. Stagnant water becomes anaerobic very quickly and therefore the water circulation is very important. In addition, the growing light with the optimal light spectrum, is an important factor for the growth.

Hydroponics has been used by professional farmers for over 40 years. Most of the 200 million herb and lettuce pots produced yearly in the Nordics are cultivated with the same principle.

Mere water is not enough for the growth of the plants, because the plants use the nutrients in pots very fast. Therefore it is recommendable to use the Tregrens nutrients that are planned for hydroponics.

The Genie’s sales package includes the so-called start-up nutrients that get you started. Nutrients designed for the device can be inquired at retailers’ selling the device. They can also be ordered through the Tregren’s store online.

The plants evaporate water and the evaporation speed depends on several factors (temperature, species etc.) The device shows also the maximum and minimum levels of the water. Water shall be added to the device when the water level goes below the minimum mark or at latest when the pump starts to take in air which is indicated by the sound. Typically water should be added every 2-5 days. It is recommendable to change the water at the same time as you add the nutrients. The recommendation is every 3 weeks.

The regular water change and adding the nutrient ensure the successful growth of the plants also for novice gardeners.

Lettuce and herbs grow the best when the light is on all the time. Plants that have flowers or fruits should have a dark period of at least 6 hours.

The power of the lamp is 5,5 watts. If the device is on continuously (24/7), the monthly energy consumption is approx. 4 kWh i.e. 0,5 euros depending on your electricity agreement.

The lifetime of the lamp is approx. 5 years on continuous 24/7 use. They are sold at retailers who are selling Genie’s products. As well as  in Tregren’s store online.

First check the amount of water. If the pump gets in even a little air, the ‘recovery’ can take few minutes after you filled up with water.  If this does not help, adjust the pump to the full power for a couple of minutes (the adjustment lever of the pump to the left) and then back to the minimum. Check also that the pump is properly attached to the attachment pin. When changing the water, also rinse the pump with running water and see that there is no soil or plant remains in the holes. The pump grill should be removed with e.g. twisting lightly by your nails – this way the cleaning is much easier. – Place the pump in the same direction as the wire/water container. Press the growing medium by the pump in such way that the suction cups are attached to the bottom. This way the potential resonation decreases. .

Genie has a LED stripe on one of its sides that turns red when the batteries run low. We recommed that you change the batteries immediately when the LED is turned on. The batteries last for 8-10 months .

All AA batteries can be used. We recommend the use of rechargeable batteries.

The pump works every 40 minutes for approx.. 10 seconds.
